Boko Haram: Nigeria’s Warplanes Consume 1.9 Million Litres Of Fuel Monthly

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Tuesday, said its planes consumed an average of 1.9 million litres of aviation fuel each month, to fight and prosecute insurgency in the North-East.
Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of the NAF logistics seminar held in Lagos.
The seminar was tagged: “Repositioning NAF logistics for Efficient Employment of Air Power in response to Contemporary National Security Imperatives.”

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence, General Muhammad Dan-Ali, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Danjuma Sheni.

Also present was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major-General Isidore Edet; Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs) Western Naval and Logistics Commands, Rear Admiral Fergusson Bobai and Beegroy Ibe-Enwo, respectively.

Facebook Executive Visit EFCC Offices In Lagos And Abuja. Photos

Mr. Cristine Perrella, Facebook Director of Trust and Safety for Africa and Europe paid a working visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC in Lagos and Abuja. This was in appreciation of the active presence of EFCC on Facebook. Cristine’s visit was a precursor to the visit of FACEBOOK Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Mark Zuckerberg who is currently in Nigeria.

Doctors successfully remove 'turtle shell' mole on 10-year-old girl's back

Doctors at Ho Chi Minh City’s Children’s Hospital, Vietnam has successfully removed the turtle-shell-like mole from the back of a 10-year old girl after a 3-hour surgery on Monday, August 29.
 
The hospital’s vice director, Dao Trung Hieu, said the girl, Tran Thi Ngoc Tham of Soc Trang province, who suffers from congenital melanocytic nevus has recovered after the surgery.
 
He said the mole weighs 1.05 kg and measures 22 cm in diameter. After its removal, doctors covered the area with skin grafted from the girl’s thigh. Six doctors and five medical workers were involved in the surgery.
Tham’s mother, Thach Thi Da Ni, 34, said she was born with the birthmark measuring the size of “a mandarin orange”, and it has been growing over the years.
Tham quit school after being repeatedly teased by others as the “turtle-shell girl” but Ni has no money for her treatment, she said.

Chris Brown released on $250k bail, Lawyer insists the allegations are false

Singer Chris Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a guest at his Los Angeles residence, Baylee Curran, called for help from the police around 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning. According to Curran, he pointed a gun at her face after he became angry when she complimented another man's diamond necklace. A search warrant was obtained by the police and after a nearly 14-hour standoff, he was taken into custody.

Chris has however been released on $250,000 bail. His lawyer Mark Garagos is insisting that the allegations made against the singer are false. More interestingly, the woman claiming Chris pulled a gun on her is wanted in New York for questioning in connection with criminal theft.

Donald Trump tells NFL player Colin Kaepernick 'Go find another country' after his decision to sit during US national Anthem

US Presidential candidate Donald Trump has told NFL's San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick to "find a country that works better for him" after the player refused standing up to sing the U.S national anthem on Friday before the San Francisco 49ers played the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game.



Colin, said he will continue to sit down whenever the national anthem is played as a protest, until there's an improvement in what he deems as racial injustice in the United States.

"I have followed it and I think it's personally not a good thing. I think it's a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it's not gonna happen," Trump told The Dori Monson Show on Monday, per Buzzfeed.

Prophet arrested in Anambra State for allegedly raping 13-year-old boy at his church

Anambra State Police Command has arrested one Prophet Ekene Adoji who allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy at his church, Jesus Miracle Ministries, Ifite, Awka. The suspect was said to have been on the run since August, 19th, 2016.

According to report, he was smuggled back to the church in a booth of a vehicle and on getting to the church premises, was apprehended by the Police men who were standing by.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Nkiru Nwode said two separate medical reports from Amaku and Police Hospital, clearly indicated that there was a canal knowledge of the boy.

The PPRO said investigations are still on going to unravel the truth of the matter and the suspect will be charged to court soon. Ms Nwode advised the people to always be mindful of places they go to in the name of church, warning parents to know the where about of their children at every point.

The suspect denied ever having canal knowledge of the boy identified as Abuchi but admitted that the victim was at his church on the day of the incident.

ISIS announces that their chief strategist and founding member Abu Muhammad al-Adnani has been killed

Islamic terrorist organization, ISIS also known as ISIL has announced that it's founding member and chief strategist Abu Muhammad al-Adnani who urged followers to carry out attacks on Western civilians while serving as the terrorist movement’s chief spokesman and propagandist has been killed by airstrikes in Aleppo, Syria.
A statement from Isis said that Adnani had been killed while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against Aleppo.
A US defence official said on Tuesday night that a coalition air strike earlier in the day had targeted Adnani in the town of al-Bab.
Adnani was
 "martyred while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against Aleppo", Isis' Amaq news agency said, without giving details about how he died.

The woman claiming Chris Brown pulled a gun on her is wanted in NYC for questioning in connection with criminal theft ... for allegedly stealing a fancy designer purse at a swanky hotel.
The incident could be significant in the Chris Brown case, because alleged victim Baylee Curranclaims a certain piece of jewelry that caught her eye triggered the events that led to her 911 call.

Baylee was vacationing with a few friends at The Plaza back in 2013 when they began arguing in the hotel. According to police docs, Baylee snatched a $1,000 Louis Vuitton purse from one of the girls and ran out of the hotel.

Although the billionaire Facebook founder didn't agree at first due to his busy schedule, he eventually gave a slight nod of approval when Gaius promised to get 100,000k shares to raise awareness on the social media site.

'We expect better economic outlook for the second half of the year' - Presidency

The Presidency says it expects a better economic outlook for Nigeria during this second half of the year. Read a statement released from the presidency below...
 The just released GDP figures for the 2016 second quarter by the National Bureau of Statistics while confirming a temporary decline, has also indicated an hopeful expectation in the country's economic trajectory.

Besides the growth recorded in the agriculture and solid mineral sectors, the Nigerian economy in response to the policies of the Buhari presidency is also doing better than what the IMF had estimated with clear indications that the second half of the year would be even much better.

Aliko Dangote has lost $5.4 billion this year, representing 35% of his wealth

According to International business site Bloomberg, Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has lost more than a third of his wealth this year alone. According to the article, Dangote has lost 35% of his wealth which sums up to $5.4 billion. The losses are attributed to commodities slump and the devaluation of the Naira in June. Dangote's net worth is $9.9 billion, a 62% drop since January 2014, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

It’s Official – Nigeria In Worst Economic Recession In 29 years

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has confirmed that Nigeria is in its worst economic recession in 29 years. According to the NBS gross domestic product (GDP) report for the second quarter of 2016, Nigeria’s economy contracted by 2.06 percent to record its lowest growth rate in three decades.

In the first quarter of 2016, the NBS said the economy shrank by 0.36 percent to hit its lowest point in 25 years.

According to World Bank data, the last time Nigeria had this magnitude of economic decline was under the regime of Ibrahim Babangida, when the economy recorded consecutive decline of 0.51 percent and 0.82 percent in first and second quarters of 1987.

"Do Not Panic"; Annular Eclipse To Hit Nigeria Tomorrow

National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA) has urged the public not to panic over the Annular Eclipse which will be experienced between the hours of 7:15am and 10:03am on Thursday, September 1 with slight variations in actual timing across the country.

In a press statement by the Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr Felix Ale, the Agency appealed to the general public not to panic or adduce any mystical interpretations to this event, urging them not to observe the eclipse with naked eyes, as this can cause damage.

According to the statement, in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, there will be a partial eclipse, with an obscurity of 60 per cent, and the first contact at about 7:17am, with maximum eclipse at 8:32am and end at 10:00am.

Also, Lagos will experience its first contact with the eclipse at 7:15am, with a maximum eclipse occurring at 8:32am and ending at about 10:00am.

The Agency has arranged a viewing centre tomorrow to enable members of the public, pupils and students from various schools to view the eclipse using specially designed viewing instruments provided by the space Agency.

The viewing centre which has been set up by the Agency will be open to the public on Thursday 1st September, 2016 from 6:45am for school pupils and students to observe the annular eclipse as part of its continuous programmes to expose Nigerians and students to matters concerning astronomical environment.

Children who fled the terror of Boko Haram are facing starvation in refugee camps in northern part of the country, Nigeria... Parents complain that there is not enough food and that their children are forced to wait in intense heat....

The youngsters, some of them only infants, are being treated in a feeding centre run by Doctors Without Borders in Maiduguri, north-east Nigeria.

Up to one in four of the youngsters in the 110-bed centre are dying, Doctors Without Borders spokeswoman Shaista Aziz said. Most of them have come from refugee camps, she added.

Rochas Okorocha To Employ 3,000 Fresh Graduates Into Civil Service.

The Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has informed of his intention to employ 3,000 young graduates into the state civil service.
Addressing a press conference in Owerri, the state capital, Monday, the Governor said that the graduates would be computer literates.

According to Owelle Okorocha the idea was to provide meaningful means of livelihood for the thousands of youths in the state and as well as injecting fresh blood into the state civil service, so as to encourage productivity.

While exploring the youths of the state to take the advantages of his Government in making the state better, he reiterated that he meant well for the state.

The Governor also disclosed his intention to permanent the appointment of the beneficiaries of Imo Youths Must Work Teachers.

Owelle Okorocha said that despite the lean resources from the Federal Government occasioned by the economic recess, he enthused that he remains committed to making sacrifices that would develop the state.

ASUU threatens to embark on strike after FG ignores demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) through its Lagos Zone Coordinator, Prof. Olusoji Sowande at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday, threatened to embark on a nationwide strike in regards to its demands for the implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

Sowande said the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on funding of state universities, breaches of the conditions of service and re-negotiation of the agreement, exclusion of Nigerian universities from Pension Management Company and non-release of NEEDS Assessment Intervention Fund were still being ignored.
