Fayose: A Case Study For Ajimobi | Toyese Oladejo

Just yesterday, Ekiti State Governor, a highly cerebral Governor of the All Ptogressives Congress, APC, sacked about 2000 newly recruited civil servants employed by his predecessor, Mr Ayo Fayose.

Sincerely, the sacked civil servants are free born indigenes of the state who deserved such right but the timing of their actual assumption of duty is, to say the list, most uncharitable and unwarranted.

Some of the affected workers were said to have passed through interview processes since 2016 before they were made to commence work in the twilight of the administration of Fayose.

The present prevailing situation in the Fountain of Knowledge State is similar to our dear Oyo State where Abiola Ajimobi has suddenly woken up from his deep slumber to engage in some last minutes rush.

Various news of last minutes awards of mouth watering contracts, moving of raw cash from the coffers of the state government’s treasury not excluding recruitments had rented the air forcing the incoming governor, Engr Oluseyi Makinde, to raise eyebrows on these issues.

While government is a continuum and abhor vacuum, it is equally expedient to be cautious on such actions less than two week to vacate office. I hope the outgoing governor’s apologists and members of the APC would see reason. Politics has gone as far as this dispensation is concerned and what is remaining is actual governance.

Against this backdrop, I hope by the time Engr Seyi Makinde will be checking the books and would resort to taking hard decisions on some or all of the last minutes decisions of the Ajimobi’s government recruitments, none of them would come out to defend that which is undefendable purely on the premises of belonging to  the APC.

Since yesterday, I have not noticed any of the APC members condemning the Ekiti mass sack saga. It would, therefore, be totally myopic and irrational if the incoming Governor Oluseyi Makinde decides to reverse all last minutes’ contracts, appointments and any other last minutes’ policies of the Ajimobi administration.

What is important now is for our state to move forward, enough of deceits and grandstandings. What our people desire is good governance that would cater for their needs and aspirations and not one that would add more burdens to their lives on the altar of self serving cosmetics projects and policies.
