‘Our Time Has Come, Your Tenure Ends With Ajimobi,’ Auxiliary Tells Ejiogbe

A former acting chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oyo State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, aka Auxiliary, says the current leadership of the union will vacate office on May 29.

Auxiliary explained on Tuesday that his pronouncement was based on the existing understanding among union members that once a new government took over the affairs of the state, the union leadership would change.
He said the transport unions had long ago decided that there was no need for forceful takeover of motor parks in the state, adding that a new leadership would take over the affairs of NURTW once Seyi Makinde, the winner of last Saturday election, was sworn in.
Auxiliary also called on the Commissioner of Police, the Director of State Services and other law enforcement agencies to arrest anybody found disturbing the peace of the state.
He said, “There is an existing understanding among union members that once a new government takes over, the union leadership naturally changes hands.
“So, why would I order anybody to go and take over motor parks in Oyo State? I have not and will not order anybody to take over motor parks. We have a way we do our things and certainly, not by forceful takeover of motor parks.
“Let me set the record straight that I was the deputy state chairman to my late boss, Lateef Salako (Eleweomo) and was serving as acting chairman of the union in the state for about two months before the administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi came in. And when Governor Ajimobi took over, Taofeek Oyerinde (Fele), Abideen Olajide (Ejiogbe); Musa Alubankudi and Tiri Olowoposi came to Iwo Road to take over, we did not resist them and they took charge.
“We are all witnesses to what happened when this current administration came in; the situation is the same now. They have had their time, it’s our time. I am sure they won’t contest it.
“During our own time, we abide by it, it is their time, they should honour the agreement between us. It is God that crowns and God has spoken,” Auxiliary said.
