The Zambia Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested 14 former and current government officials for corruption offenses.
The ACC said in a statement on Thursday that the 14 people arrested included a former Southern Province permanent secretary, Sibanze Simuchoba.
He said the permanent secretary and two other officials were arrested for failing to follow the applicable procedures of how they authorized the transfer of funds without the approval of the secretary of the treasury.
The statement added that 11 other officials in Choma district were arrested for false accounting fraud.
The 14 are scheduled to appear in court on November 3.
The government of President Hakainde Hichilema has put the fight against corruption at the top of its agenda.
He promised to expose and punish past and current offenders.
