Tunisia’s ministry of health has ordered all incoming travellers, regardless of where they have travelled from, to immediately self-isolate upon arrival to the country.
This latest preventative measure against the spread of Covid-19 is a step up from earlier in the week when this was only a requirement for those coming back from the worst-affected areas.
It is a move that puts a lot of faith in people complying, because in reality the authorities cannot monitor people's behaviour on this scale.
Breaking quarantine rules is a criminal offence here.
It appears the authorities are trying to strike a balance between prevention and containment, and avoiding more stringent measures like further suspension of flights to avoid the severe economic impact that comes with even tighter controls.
