Fire guts four-storey building in Anambra

A four-storey building near St. Albert Catholic Church, Odume Layout, Obosi, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was on Monday gutted by fire.

An eye witness told The PUNCH that the fire could have been caused by some combustible materials in a shop in the area.

The eye witness said, "It is an uncompleted building where people buy engine oil and other combustible materials. We were surprised when we saw fire outbreak at the building."

The woman, whose office was close to the scene of the incident, said the men of the Fire Service came to the scene immediately and put off the fire but the fire started again when they left.

"They left thinking they had succeeded in quelling the fire. But as soon as they left, the fire rekindled.

"We have already contacted the fire service from Awka, praying the fire does not spread to other buildings in the area before they arrive."

When contacted, the Police Spokesperson in the state, Haruna Mohammed, promised to get across to the Divisional Police Officer of the area but did not get back to punch correspondent as of the time of filing the report.
