The complainant escaped from the scene during the operation but sustained injuries.

According to reports, the hoodlums were armed with guns, sticks, and cutlasses.

It was learnt that they shot several rounds of ammunition into the air to scare away the villagers before they made away with the victim and the phones.

It was gathered that the suspects demanded N2m ransom from the victim’s relatives.

In an interview with our correspondent, one of the suspects, Isyaku, who is a peasant farmer, said he took to crime to raise money to prepare for dry season farming.

“The goats and sheep that I am rearing belong to someone else and I need money to farm during the dry season. That was the reason I joined the kidnap gang, but I was arrested by the police,” he stated.

The second-in-command to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Uthman Umar, confirmed the incident and said the suspects had confessed to the crime.
