Nigerian writer Gimba Kakanda is being accused of religious bigotry after he shared a report that has led some Muslims to threaten violence. But the writer has denied being a bigot.
Gimba reported that a mosque was demolished in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with Governor Wike's approval. Some Muslims saw the report and threatened to retaliate by doing same to a church.
Gimba later shared a report revealing the initial report was false. But his initial tweet was still up and had already led to threats of violence as people planned to carry out reprisal attacks.
Twitter and Facebook users called Gimba out for the volatile tweets he shared and accused him of instigating violence. They also asked why his initial tweet is still up seeing as he has now been informed that he was wrong.
Gimba replied, revealing that he is the last person to be accused of religious bigotry. He reminded followers of the time he led Muslims to protect a church at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency. He has also deleted his initial tweet on the matter.
