Sun News reports that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has assured that they are ready to conduct the March 9 governorship, House of Assembly and the Federal Capital Territory Area Councils elections.

Yakubu said this in his opening remarks, yesterday, during a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja yesterday.

He stressed that the meeting was convened to review activities of last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly polls.

“We are here to review and share views on the last presidential election and the March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections, and the Area Councils election in the FCT, which coincides with the general election.

“We will also conduct election into 68 constituencies; for six area council chairmen and 62 councillors.

“Since the RECs are here with the state collation officers for the presidential election, it is important for us to meet and review the experiences of the last election, with a view to strengthening our processes towards a successful conduct of elections on Saturday, March 9.

“We have gone very far with all the arrangements for the election. The election will hold on March 9. The purpose of this meeting is keeping with the tradition of the commission.

“Once you conduct a national election, you take stuck and review so that processes and procedures are strengthened, largely from the experience of the previous election,” he added.
