I’ll Abolish School, Security Levies Immediately I Assume Office — Makinde

Good times are here for residents of Oyo State as governor-elect, Engr Seyi Makinde has promised to abolish primary, secondary school fees.

Makinde, who spoke recently on his immediate plans, explained that “By the grace of God, on assumption of office, I will hit the ground running as promised during the electioneering. Our people have suffered for too long and we need to start cushioning the excruciating poverty and harsh economic conditions afflicting many citizens and residents alike.
“First, I will put a stop to all fees being paid by public primary and secondary school students. As of the last count, hapless parents were paying over N1bn to the government coffers annually under the guise of needless fees of N3,000/student. That money will henceforth stay with them and its effect will be on the economy.
“Secondly, security levies will be cancelled. Churches and mosques will heave a sigh of relief because the money being paid by them will remain with the people and no longer to the state government.
“Thirdly, I will constitute an economic team. I will be the head of the team to be put in place to fast-track the process of economic regeneration agenda of our dear state through agriculture, existing natural resources, and many others.”
