2019: ‘Shocked’ Oyo APC To Meet Adelabu, Others Over Election Outcome Tomorrow

Still shocked by the defeat it suffered in the March 9 governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has summoned a meeting of its stakeholders for tomorrow.

A terse statement from the state chairman of the party, Chief Akin Oke, on Saturday, said those expected at the meeting included all state executive members, local government party chairmen, secretaries, youth leaders and women leaders.
Also expected to attend the meeting are all the candidates of the party, including Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who was the governorship candidate in the election, the senatorial candidates and senators-elect, House of Representatives member-elect and candidates, state House of Assembly members and candidates as well as all recognized leaders in the 33 local government councils.
Oke in the statement said the meeting, which has been scheduled for Government House, will start by 11 am.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not included in the statement, Tribune Online gathered that a post mortem of the outcome of the governorship and House of Assembly election will be done by the stakeholders.
It was learnt that the stakeholders are still shell-shocked that APC which won two out of the three Senate seats and nine of the 14 House of Representatives seats could be so roundly trounced in the governorship election held two weeks after.
“We are meeting to talk about the March 9 election which defied all logic. We won two out of three Senate seats and nine out of 14 House of Representatives seats, why was there Fayose-Fayemi type of election two weeks after?
“So, we will meet to review the outcome of the elections and definitely chart a way forward for the APC in the state. Look at Ogun State with all the issues that happened in the party, APC still won.
“My consolation is that God should give us peace. We can’t run away from the lessons we have learnt. Is it not Oyo State? We will see what happens in the next one year or two,” a top-notch in the party spoke anonymously.
On whether the APC would be reaching out to the member of the Unity Forum which broke away in the wake of the congresses of the party, the party leader said discussion would still get to that level, but that the immediate concern was to review the elections and chart a way forward.
